Cutting the new floor is tricky. You need to use “reference lines.” Reference lines are a set of lines on your plywood that you make with a chalk line. The distance between the reference lines will be the distance of the NARROWEST measurement at the forward part of the floor (i.e., the length of your bulkhead board, plus just enough that the top of the floor will actually hit the edge of the hull on both side. Once you have the reference lines on your plywood, go back to the boat and measure the floor width from one side to the other ever six inches along the length of the boat. Go back to the plywood and mark off every six inches to match the six inch segments in the boat. Your width measurement will bet bigger as you go from front to back. Determine at each segment the difference between the measured width and the distance between the reference lines. Then divide that difference by 2 and that is what you will add in distance on either side of your reference lines. Make a dot at the each location and the, when you have done this for each segment, just “connect the dots” and you have the shape of the boat. Be sure to make the cuts with the blade angled so that the plywood fits up nicely against the angled hull.
